Ehhh? Which version are you using? In NetBackup 3.2 the server contacts the client on 13782 (so you need to open for that port from the backup server to the clients), but the problem with version 3.2 is that you cannot define which port the client should respond to the server on. So you need to open from the client to the NBU server on ports from 1025 to 5000 to be sure (it usually starts at 4999 and down). Remember to set the reserved ports on the client by adding ALLOW_NON_RESERVED_PORTS=TRUE to the bp.conf file on the client and entering the following command on the NBU master: bpclient -client client_hostname -add -current_host client_hostname -connect_nr_port 1 (The -current_host is needed if you have problems with doing restores from the clients through the firewall). According to some rumors the ability to choose the ports that client will return to the server from, should have been added in NetBackup 3.4 again. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Inti Shah" <[email protected]> To: "'Arie Gilboa'" <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, September 06, 2000 2:09 PM Subject: RE: [FW1] FW1 and Veritas NetBackup > Netback works as follows: > > tcp 13782 and 13720 from ports 512-1024 on the server so the client needs to > be able to talk back to those ports 512-1024. > > You have to define the ports in services.
