Considering that Napsters own master servers use the defaults, and that MOST server lists are showing the large majority of servers also on the defaults, you can get a pretty good filter with a single rule for those ports. I certainly don't plan on constantly updating a slew of network objects to maintain a list of servers to block... You can specify some content filtering for ftp and http using wildcards and ".mp3", and this will probably pickup the rest of the transfers that don't get handled by the port filtering above...(in this same fashion you can block shoutcast streams since they are really handled as HTTP requests and have an easily identifiable header) otherwise, you can dive into the never ending battle of updating a long server list. (not my idea of fun) -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2000 11:24 PM To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Subject: RE: [FW1] napster - again :-) Yes, the user can change the sharing ports, and circumvent the defaults. In fact, the user can use a well known port like 80 or 53. This does not work.. You can 1) Manipulate DNS 2) Block napster server networks 3) Port blocking They work well together... You probably can do the best job by blocking port 8888 and 7777... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Highfield" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2000 2:59 PM Subject: RE: [FW1] napster - again :-) > > > Napsters Network > > > network mask > > 208.178.175.128 255.255.255.248 > 208.178.163.56 255.255.255.248 > 208.49.239.240 255.255.255.240 > 208.49.228.0 255.255.255.0 > 208.184.216.0 255.255.255.0 > > Hope this helps > > Jeff > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] > [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Wednesday, August 30, 2000 3:20 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [FW1] napster - again :-) > > > > > > Does anyone have the current NAPSTER network information?
