Smurfing is when you send echo requests to a broadcasting domain with a fake IP (target hosts). Then all the machines will answer with repley to the target. If you have a couple of broadcating domains to send to the bandwidth will get very high for the target machine and you have a successfull dos attack. And Tim, I would find a more "custom friendly" ISP ;o, if I were you. /Jonas -----Original Message----- From: Thornton, Richard [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: den 3 oktober 2000 15:55 To: Firewall-1 Mailing List (E-mail) Subject: [FW1] smurfing group can someone point me in the right direction to a resource on smurfing, i am intrigued as to what it is, how it works? many thanks richard thornton . ============================================================================ ==== To unsubscribe from this mailing list, please see the instructions at http://www.checkpoint.com/services/mailing.html ============================================================================ ==== ================================================================================ To unsubscribe from this mailing list, please see the instructions at http://www.checkpoint.com/services/mailing.html ================================================================================
