Title: FW1 on Nokia Box - http scanning? Thanks
Lars,
A
fuller explanation is probably in order. We use a CacheFlow box for caching and
as the proxy server for our users browser configuration. It is not a true proxy
server but does the job well. The CacheFlow box tries to service the http
request, and if it can't it passes though fw1 and out onto the net, retrieves
and delivers request.
The
products you have mentioned will all work provided you have FW1 installed on NT
or Solaris. You then install one of the below products on a NT or Solaris box
depending on what it supports, and set-up the CVP connection, which means you
can use it more as a 'pass through' server on the side of the side of the FW,
rather than having to install its as a proxy server in-between the FW and
whatever comes next on your internal network.
The
problem I have is that none of the products you have mentioned will be able to
talk directly with FW1 when it is installed on a Nokia box (It is an appliance -
it doesn't run NT or Solaris etc). Thus we would have to install a proxy server
and then one of the AV products mentioned onto it.
We
would like to avoid installing the proxy server, instead finding a http scanning
AntiVirus package that will talk with the Nokia box.
Cheers,
dj

There
are several products out there: Trend Netsuite, Norton Antivirus for Firewalls,
Mimesweeper for fw-1 (discontinued) and others (NAI and fprot also has virus
scanning gateways). But I don't recomend using cvp for these purposes because of
it's limitations. CVP for mail can't scan attachments which are divided into
several blocks in the mail (mime type message/partial), and ftp and http
scanning is IMHO not so good either. IMO you should rather implement your
anti virus checking on a proxy server, or with mimesweeper (not for
firewall-1).

Hi, We are looking at moving FW1 from NT to a brand new Nokia box. Howvever we can't find any AntiVirus products that will offer http and ftp scanning on internet browsing and have API's written that will let them use CVP to connect with FW1 on the Nokia box. Any ideas? Cheers,
