RE: [FW1] AntiVirus solution for FW1?

Trend works well for me - I have about 7 sites using it for SMTP, FTP and
HTTP, it's fairly stable (one crash every 3-4 months) which I've not yet
tracked down.

Tech support is good - ie you can contact farly easily, they know what they
are talking about and often provide solutions.

AV updates are automatic and so far they have been on the ball when it comes
to big issues like the Melissa's etc 2 hours compared to significantly more
for another vendor who you don't have to look far to name ...

The only real problems that I face are :-

Their scanning engine updates have to be installed manually which becomes a
burden as more engines are installed - and as we all know people only look
at updates when things break :-<

I've requested this feature a while back and am waiting for a promised
update.

The FTP/HTTP engine doesn't provide a status window like the SMTP one does -
which makes it difficult to see whats happening or not when things break or
during installs.

Oh - and the big one -- you can only EXCLUDE certain file types or MIME
types that you wish to block - but you cannot authorize the list of types
you want to allow.
Again this has been logged, confirmed and discussed but no new binaries yet
..

HTH

Cheers

Tim

Subject: [FW1] AntiVirus solution for FW1?

Hello, I posted a message several days ago about problems we are having with
Symantec's Norton AntiVirus for Firewalls (v1.5) working with our FW1. I
received several messages from other people having the same problems which
leads me to believe that Symantec's NAV product is simply not ready for
prime time. :-(

I am working with Trend Micro, maker of VirusWall, to evaluate and possibly
purchase their product. Several people recommend this solution for scrubbing
SMTP traffic at the firewall. Although I do plan to install and test their
30-day eval, I'd like to get the opinion of others who are actually running
Trend's product. Are you satisfied with the performance of VirusWall? Are
there any problems that I should watch out for? Any information would be
greatly appreciated.
