[FW1] Win2K reboot question

When doing an initial install on Win2K, is it necessary to
reboot to run the GUI. I am trying to put together a lab
where I have some students install the software, just
to get a feel for what is involved, and poke around with
the GUI a bit. The lab environment lets me make any changes
I want to the machine, but wipes them outl after a
reboot.

I am assuming I can get a trial version of the software to do
this with. Another option would be to install it on a Linux
disk, which I would be able to reboot without losing
any changes.. Is the GUI supported on Linux yet?
