RE: [FW1] Cable/DSL Router/Firewalls

Title: RE: [FW1] Cable/DSL Router/Firewalls
These Linksys or Netgear or any of the other devices like them are just as prone to being hacked as any other device stuck out on the Internet.  I am surprised it hasn't happened already.  Maybe it has and we just haven't heard about it.  Linksys might have made the first hack-proof system but I sure wouldn't put any money on it (nothing against Linksys here).

So, that being said, it just depends on your level of paranoia.  I'm not going to run zone alarm at home behind my Linksys router but if I had one protecting my critical business data, that extra level of protection might make me sleep a little better at night.

True...the linksys does NAT, and provides a decent level of protection as it is

I use a linksys at home (with SR over an AT&T @home cable connection) ...  and since installing it, my ZoneAlarm is sleeping soundly... nothing ever shows up anymore... the random port scans..etc...   just seem to dissappear at the linksys.

However... if one of your computers is configured as a 'DMZ host' then you are leaving it open again.... so... being that a home user may do that on their own.... zonealarm seems like a good free backup...

Doesn't the Linksys router have FW protection?  If so, why would you use BlackICE or ZoneAlarm too?

We have found that giving them a Linksys router and BlackICE or ZoneAlarm has proven fairly effective....

Anyone have any opinions of what make/model of firewall to use with
SecureRemote on DSL or cable connections?  We don't need firewall to
firewall VPN we are just looking to protect end-user networks from attacks
while still allowing them to use SecureRemote behind the FW.

Thanks.
