Martin, The last version of ICQ client (v2000b) is much more fw-friendly as it supports TCP connection to the ICQ server. This makes it possible to use it behind almost any firewall that allows outgoing traffic. Checkpoint FW-1 in "hide-nat" mode is also supported. Some ICQ features however would be limited by the firewall in this configuration - like file transfers, chats or any other peer-to-peer TCP stuff. Those features require one of the peers to be able to accept TCP connections.
