We gave that a shot; I confirmed with a Nokia engineer; please see the results below. The unit will need to be returned. Nokia Knowledge base art. 1764 and the IPSO version release notes helped a lot. A Nokia engineer said that my cohort really screwed up the bios and HDD to the point of failure. The factory will have to repair the motherboard. See below: We kept getting a "boot loop" with the same error blow, so I kicked out into boot manager. I think that we have a problem with the location wd0. BOOTMGR[3]> boot wd0 /image/current/kernel -vd Booting wd(0,f)/image/IPSO-3.4.1-FCS5-08.18.2001-053000-826/kernel @ 0xc0100000 text=0x237000 Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode fault virtual address = 0xc0100038 fault code = supervisor write, page not present instruction pointer = 0x8:0xf03aa607 code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1 processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0 current process = 1 (swapper) interrupt mask = net tty bio panic: page fault syncing disks... done So, then, I kicked us out to try and load a new IPSO image via FTP; no luck. Loading boot manager..Bootmgr l oaded.Entering autoboot mode. Type any character to enter command mode. BOOTMGR[0]> install You have choosen to install a new IPSO image. There was never a link light on either the card (s1/p1) or the port on the motherboard. If a tech note is appended with our problem, maybe it could state NOT to use the motherboard ethernet. 1764 was very helpful. -----Original Message----- From: Chris Arnold [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, November 18, 2001 6:27 PM To: 'Ekblad, Eric M '; '[email protected] ' Subject: RE: [FW-1] NOKIA boot critical error It depends on what this person did to "wipe it out." From the error messages included below it appears that you (you, not as in you did it but you as in it's your problem now) may have simply have incorrect boot manager environment variables. I would boot the box with a console cable connected, hit the enter key a few times when it asks if you want to enter command mode and then type "printenv <enter>" at the prompt. Write down the values for each variable and then type "unsetenv variable_name <enter>" for each variable listed. Then type "boot <enter> at the prompt and see what happens. The reason for doin this is to eliminate and incorrect values for the values. It may work, it may not. It sounds like the boot manager can't find the kernel image in the boot-strapping process and dies when it fails. You can also hunt around the disks with the bootmanager as well with some of the often-used *nix commands if you feel like looking for the kernel image and verifying the path, etc. Chris -----Original Message----- From: Ekblad, Eric M To: [email protected] Sent: 11/14/01 6:15 PM Subject: [FW-1] NOKIA boot critical error Dear all: Someone on my team (not me, seriously) crapped out a new IP650 by trying to alter the boot manager (despite warnings that only the factory should do this). Is there anyway around an error like this? (I do not think so but I thought that I would ask). I think that we need to send this to the factory. Loading boot manager..Bootmgr loaded.Entering autoboot mode. Type any character to enter command mode.
