Title: RE: [FW-1] Compiling 3rd Party Software on Nokia's Don't even bother trying :) For supportability, the standard header files required to compile anything are removed, and you have certainly already noted that there isn't an IPSO package on their support site for gcc :). Binaries compiled on FreeBSD do not run properly on IPSO (at least, not the couple simple ones that I've tried, like ping). All in all, however, this is the exact reason that people buy IPSO - no worrying about pre-hardening, and no worrying about people (authorized or not) putting extra software (read: vulnerabilities) on the box. If you need these applications to run on your firewall: 1 - Think really hard about why you're putting them there. sudo, for example, is the granddaddy of double-edged swords. 2 - If you still decide that you realy need them, run Solaris or Linux.
