i had the same problem,

By disabling the firewall that comes with XP it solved my problem.

I had same problem in Win2k - got round it by:-

1. Login with domain credentials (cached)
2. Lack of SR Popup got round by running a Post-DUN batch file which pings
an Office LAN address (thereby forces SR Popup)
