Hi Mark, this behaviour seems to be normal but there's a solution in the secure knowledge database: sk10148 "Running syslogd with the -t switch causes these errors. This message is usually seen in Solaris 2.8 machines that have a hardened OS. To prevent these messages appearing, modify /etc/init.d/syslog so it does not launch with -t, as follows: 1. Edit the script file /etc/init.d/syslog 2. Find the line in this script that runs syslogd with a -t 3. Remove the -t from the script. 4. Run ./syslog stop followed by ./syslog start to enable the change."
